Techie Brekkie #4

This morning DPS staff engaged in a productive 45 mins of sharing and learning all about technology.

First we looked at a new collaborative cloud-based planning website called Fluency 21. This free tool is appealing for a number of reasons:

  • ability to select Australian Curriculum objectives
  • reminds us to focus on the skills we are trying to develop with technology – not how to use the technology itself
  • template that provides space to think about the level of technology being incorporated into the plan – ‘high tech, low tech or no tech’
  • planning that asks you to consider the 21st century skills you are aiming to develop in students
  • ability to find and interact with plans developed by other teachers which encourages collaboration and sharing
  • simple, clean interface

I encourage you to take a look. It is free to sign up using an email address. The public plans available are fantastic and provide a great model for writing our own plans. You can find Fluency 21 here.

UPDATE 4/8/13: First Fluency 21 unit of work created by Tamara Doig and Johanna Fredericks for year 2 History. Click here to view. Please sign up to view entire unit of work and add your feedback.

Our staff answered a survey about Techie Brekkie this week and all replied that they would like to spend time each session sharing lesson ideas. This week we focused on 4 apps that most teachers have been using and shared ways they have been used in the classroom so far. We used Popplet to brainstorm these. Click on the image to enlarge it. Thanks to all those that attended – great session!
